Last Week; Next Week

Last week was Homecoming here at Whitworth. Each dorm nominated a prince and a princess, and then the two of them participated in several activities throughout the week against all of the other dorm royalty. I wasn't able to attend many of the events, but I was able to catch a glimpse of the lip syncing contest one day at lunch. Our prince and princess did a dance off style performance and the prince danced and lip synced to Michael Jackson. They did very well! What I was looking forward to most was the football game and the dance. Saturday afternoon I went to the football game, but I left after half time. During half time there was a parade of the dorm royalty, in which every prince and princess from each dorm had to make outfits from completely recycled material. Our prince and princess were the Flintstones. They looked great, and guess what? They won! The King and Queen of Whitworth University live in my building ;). That makes all of us who live in Arend Hall very proud, considering the majority of the way the winners are determined are based on dorm involvement in the week's activities. I was told that the football game was tied, but we lost in just the last seconds of the game.
The dance was a lot of fun. It was located a couple of blocks off campus. There were a lot of people there. The music was very loud and there were crazy lights everywhere! I had a good time, it was a fun event.

Here is a photo of our prince and princess from Arend Hall, who were named king and queen. This was taken when they heard they won, I think their outfits and their car looked great!

This is a huge blow up helmet that blows fog when our football team runs through it onto the field! I think it's pretty awesome.

I joined a co-ed intermural volleyball team and we had our first game this last Tuesday night. Our team name is the Tomahawks! We made team t-shirts and I am pretty sure everyone on our team is from Arend Hall. I have to confess I am not very good at it, but we have great team spirit and it is a lot of fun! My RA (resident's assistant), Annie (also known as Mama Bear), brought snacks and juice boxes to the game! Haha it's great. Who knows how the season will go but what other team has matching team shirts and team snacks? :)

Friday night at midnight starts a campus wide game of Humans vs. Zombies. It is hard to explain, but everyone starts out as humans except there is one zombie to begin with. The two are differentiated by a yellow bandana either on the arm or around the head. Nobody knows who the first zombie will be, but the zombies have to tag humans, which then turn into zombies, and the humans have either nerf guns to shoot the zombies or socks that they throw at the zombies. The game lasts for about six days, and the only safe places are the cafeteria, bathrooms, and your room. Everywhere else is fair game. I am not participating in it this year, I think I will enjoy observing. But I have heard many stories and believe me, people take this seriously! I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of paranoia in the air this week!
